Enhanced descriptions from Syndetics:

The landscape of the British Isles is one of the most diverse in the world. Within these islands there is everything from wild mountains, coasts and moorlands to gentle farmland, forests and meandering rivers. Imprinted over this diversity is a rich history, visible as much in the buildings as in the shape of the landscape itself. From prehistoric monuments like Stonehenge to the vast modern motorways which sweep across the land, Britain is marked indelibly by the works of man.

Library Journal Review

Truly a photojournalistic delight, this stunning coffee-table book has captured the rare natural beauty of a land steeped in history. More than 200 aerial color photographs present bird's-eye views of Britain's well-known, not-so-well-known, and ordinary sights. It's all here-the misty Scottish lake area, castles with their moats and topiary mazes, chalk etchings on mountains and hillsides, Stonehenge, the Cotswolds, and the white cliffs of Dover. Medieval towns, churches, stately Oxford University, rivers, and bridges silhouetted in the dusk are all intermingled with scenes of grazing sheep, fields readied for planting, greenhouses, a highway ramp, rows of autos, gas storage tanks, lush forests, fields of poppies and lavender, and the majestic beauty of the sand and sea. Detailed captions describe the history behind the sights. Views of people have been omitted, and appropriately so, for this book is about land and nature. Not to be overlooked.-Ann E.
